Editing language strings in a file

You can edit the strings in a language file to translate a language file or to refine it for your audience.

After you have edited any labels in a language file, you must have SirsiDynix restart the Tomcat server before the changes will appear in the interface.

A few strings include variable codes to customize the output for the user. For more information, see String variables.

To edit language strings

  1. Log in to the Admin console.
  2. Choose Displays from the navigation pane.
  3. Choose Language Files from the Displays menu.
  4. Choose the Edit Source option for the language file.
  5. Do one of the following:

    • Select a category from the drop-down list, then choose Go. You can either continue to select from the subcategories, search or replace from within the selected category, or edit the fields that appear (Portfolio displays all the fields in the subcategory if it is the deepest subcategory in the category).
    • Type a string to search for in the Search in this category box, then click Search. Portfolio displays the matching fields from the selected category.
    • Type a string to search and a string to replace it with in the Search and replace in this category box. Portfolio displays each string that was found. The Current column displays the edited string (the replacement already made). You can check to make sure that the replacement for each string is correct and make any edits you wish before finalizing the changes.

Note: The search is always case-sensitive and does not allow the use of wildcard characters or boolean logic.

  6. Edit the Current field for each string you want to modify.
  7. When you have finished providing edited or translated text for each string, choose OK to save the edited strings to the language file, or Cancel to return to the search fields without saving the strings.
