Fields: Language Files

Lists the language files that have been defined for your system. Each file includes all of the interface labels, prompts, and messages for both the administrative and patron interfaces. Portfolio comes with the following language files:

  • American English (en_US)
  • Australian English (en_AU)
  • British English (en_GB)
  • Canadian French (fr_CA)
  • French French (fr_FR)
  • Spanish (es_ES)
  • Catalan (ca_ES)
  • Colombian Spanish (co_ES)
  • Simplified Chinese (zh_CN)
  • Traditional Chinese (zh_TW)

As you create new language files, those files can be used as the bases for any new language files you want to create.

You can edit language files but you cannot delete language files.

When you add a new language file, the language is listed in the Languages bar of the Admin console and is available in Profiles as a configurable language for creating a custom page element in a profile.

Language List

Displays the languages that are available in your system. You can add a new language or edit the strings from an existing language file.

This list has these columns

Column Description

Code

Lists the code entered for the language file.

Name

Lists name of the language based on the language code (for example, for en-US, the language would be English).

Country

Lists the country as a subcategory of the language (for example, for “en-US”, the Country would be “United States”; for “en” the Country would be blank ).

Options

The options let you add a language file or edit the strings in an existing language file.

You have these options:

Add Language

Lets you create a new language file definition, using an IANA registered language code and based on a language file already existing in your system.

Edit Source

Lets you open the language file and then find and edit individual strings from the Admin console and Search interfaces.
