Fields: Add/Edit EDS Target
Add/Edit EDS Search Target lets you add a new EDS search target or change the settings for an existing EDS search target. The EDS search target defines the connection information to EDS.
Federated Configuration > Federated Search Sources > Search Targets > Add Target
Federated Configuration > Federated Search Sources > Search Targets > Edit Target
EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) is a federated service that provides electronic resources to libraries. Enterprise lets libraries that subscribe to EDS include EDS as a federated target that patrons can search and use to download electronic resources. Your library can subscribe to EDS through EBSCO.
Target Name
Displays the name of the search target that you are editing.
Note: If you are adding a search target, this information does not display.
Name
Displays the name of the search source for which you are adding or editing a search target.
Description
Specifies a short explanation of the purpose of the target.
Use EDS labels for English
EDS provides labels that are more detailed than those that are provided by Portfolio but are grouped together. For example, EDS may have several Author labels (such as Corporate Author) combined under the Author group. When this option is not selected, the EDS labels in a group are all included under the same Enterprise label.
EDS content and labels are available only in English. If you cater only to an English speaking audience, you can take advantage of the detailed EDS labels by enabling this option. If you cater to a non-English speaking audience, the only way to display localized labels for EDS content is to disable this option and take advantage of the label localization that Portfolio provides.
Show target in a separate tab
Displays the tab that opens the results of the target on the same level as the Catalog and Database tabs in the Searching interface. When this option is not selected, the tab displays under the Database tab along with any other federated targets enabled for the profile.
Limit content for non-authenticated users
Specifies whether users who are not authenticated in Portfolio should see the same search fields as those who are. By default, EBSCO omits some search fields from the search results of users who are not authenticated. Disabling this option displays all of the search fields regardless of whether the user is authenticated.
A user can be authenticated either by logging in or by accessing Enterprise from a list of authenticated IP addresses. This means that when this option is enabled, users are able to access EBSO content if they are either logged in or working from an authenticated IP address.
Research Starter character limit
Specifies the maximum number of characters that are displayed in a Research Starter before the content is truncated. If the limit specified would cut off the content in the middle of a word, then the content is truncated at the first space following that word. Following the truncated content, a More link is displayed that takes the user to the full page on EBSCO's site. This field's default setting is 0, which displays the full Research Starter content that is received from EBSCO.
Note: EBSCO has a pre-defined character limit set for each Research Starter topic. If EBSCO's character limit for a Research Starter topic is less than the value specified in this field, then the content for that topic is truncated at the earlier position.
IP Address Ranges
Allows you select a range of IP addresses from which patrons can access the EBSCO content associated with the target without logging in to Enterprise. For example, this academic libraries to allow their patrons to access the EBSCO information when they are using on-campus computers even without logging in. Add IP address ranges using the following fields:
