Fields: Add/Edit Z39.50 Search Target
Add/Edit Z39.50 Search Target lets you add a new Z39.50 search target or change the settings for an existing Z39.50 search target. A search target specifies the databases on the federated search host that you want to connect to, and how you want Portfolio to interpret the data that is returned from the federated search target.
Federated Configuration > Manage Targets > Add Target or Edit Target icon
Target Name
Displays the name of the search target that you are editing.
Note: If you are adding a search target, this information does not display.
Source Name
Displays the name of the search source for which you are adding or editing a search target.
Name
Specifies the system name of the search source (up to 80 characters). This name is used to identify the search target on the Federated Search Sources page and on any other pages in the Admin console that display the search target name.
For this field, you can also specify an alternate name for a specific language. Choose the language from the drop-down list of supported languages, then enter the localized name in the field.
Note: If your web browser is configured to use a display language that is not supported by Portfolio and you have chosen to display the Admin console in a language other than the default language (en_US), the language that displays in the drop-down list of supported languages defaults to US English.
If a localized name already exists for a specific language, the software displays that language name differently in the drop-down list. When you enter a localized name for a specific language, the language name appears with a “++” suffix. If you clear the localized name for a specific language, the software displays the language name without the different formatting.
Important: Any changes that you make to the localized name are not saved until you click OK.
Description
Specifies a text description of this search target (up to 255 characters). This description is displayed on the Manage Federated Search Targets page.
Z39.50 Set
Specifies the Z39.50 set that you want this search target to use. The options in the drop-down list are the Z39.50 sets that you have previously created. For more information, see Managing Z39.50 sets .
Qualifier
Specifies the qualifier from the Z39.50 Set that you chose previously. The qualifier that you choose is the piece of data on which search results will be matched.
For example, if you designate “Subject” as the qualifier to use for a specific Z39.50 search target, then when a patron performs a search using that target, the search results will be matched based on the subject data for each item.
Search Element Set
Specifies the character set used by the query that Portfolio sends to the search target.
You can choose these values:
Option |
Description |
F (Full) |
Sends the full character set to the search target. |
B (Brief) |
Sends an abbreviated version of the character set to the search target. |
Record Character Set
Specifies the character set of the record that Portfolio sends to the search target. Portfolio supports UNICODE (UTF8), ANSI, and MARC character sets.
Record Syntax
Specifies the syntax of the record that Portfolio sends to the search target. Portfolio supports both UNIMARC and USMARC record syntaxes.
Send Record Syntax
Specifies whether to send the record syntax. If you enable this, Portfolio sends the record syntax to the search target.
Show target in a separate tab
Displays the tab that opens the results of the target on the same level as the Catalog and Database tabs in the Searching interface. When this option is not selected, the tab displays under the Database tab along with any other federated targets enabled for the profile.
Databases
Specifies the name of the database that you want this search target to connect to on the specified search source.
