Creating a custom book list

If you are picking up the "Add Items to Item List" (additemlist) from Symphony through your instance of Symphony Web Services, you can use filters in Portfolio to create your own custom versions of the "New Books" list. For example, if you wanted to create a list that showed only newly added DVD's at your library, you could use the Library filter and the Item Type filter to create a "New DVD's at Main Library" list.

If the "Find in my library" search can't find an item from the booklist in the library, the search field may be adding the "h" subfield as part of the title. To correct this, you need to exclude the "h" subfield from the title tag (245 in MARC or 200 in UNIMARC) in Symphony WorkFlows. For more information about excluding a subfield, see "Display Tab for Entries" in the WorkFlows Help.

To create custom "New Additions" lists

  1. From the Admin console, choose General Configuration > Book Lists.
  2. Select Add Book list.
  3. In the Display Name field, enter a display name for the list (for example, "New DVD's").

Note: If you are supporting multiple languages in your user interface, make sure to enter a corresponding name for every language you support by using the language drop-down.

  4. In the Description field, enter a text description for the list (optional).
  5. In the Web Service field, select the Web Service that you are pulling the "New Books" list from.

The List Identifier and Filters fields appear.

  6. Type the name of the Symphony list you want to use as the source of the items.
  7. Select the filters you want to use on the book list to create your custom list. For example, if you want to create a list of new items at MAIN library, you would select MAIN from the Library filter drop-down.

For more information, see Fields: Add Book List.

  8. When you have finished, choose OK.
