Use No Limits
Specifies whether you want an option that allows the patron to search without limiting the results by any of the optional search limits. When selected, the patron will have the option to select Everything, which applies no limits other than those already enforced for the profile. For example, if the list includes several limits and a single target, selecting Use No Limits enables a the Everything option in the list, which allows the user to search the target without limits. When there is more than one target, Use No Limits has no effect, because Portfolio cannot determine which target is being searched. When Use No Limits is not selected, the patron can switch between the optional search limits, if available, but is not given the option to search without using one.
Note: Because limits and targets appear in the same list, if the list contains more than one target, the Everything option will continue to appear. This allows patrons to search all of the targets.
Default Limit
Specifies which of the optional limits to have selected when the patron enters the profile.
Note: If the Use No Limits option is selected for the search profile, Everything is the default optional search limit unless a specific optional search limit is selected in the Default Limit field.
The behavior of the default limit may be affected by how the browser used with Searching is configured. The first time a patron starts a browser, and points to a search profile, the designated default optional search limit will be highlighted in the Searching drop-down list. If the browser is set to remember form data, then each time the browser is started, the most-recently highlighted search limit is highlighted in the Searching drop-down list. If the browser is not set to remember form data, the default optional search limit for the search profile is highlighted.
