Fields: Manage Pickup Libraries

Manage Pickup Libraries lets you select which libraries are available as pickup libraries to library patrons. You can create a list of pickup libraries for Symphony or Horizon. You must include at least one web service for authentication in the profile (for more information, see Managing web services). For Symphony, Enterprise lists each library available through the web services that have been defined and selected for the profile (for more information, see Security Options) and each configured library group. For Horizon, because you cannot add the libraries directly to the pick up library list, you should create a library group that includes each of the libraries you want to list as pickup libraries (for more information, see Library Groups). However, Portfolio displays only the Horizon libraries that the Horizon Web Services authentication server indicates are valid for the profile.

Profiles > Manage Pickup Libraries

Libraries in a library group appear in the order specified for the group. If you add a library to the list that appears in a library group, the single instance takes priority. For example, if MAIN library is part of the CENTRAL group, but you also add it above CENTRAL in the list, it will only be listed above the other CENTRAL libraries, no matter where it is listed in the group. This lets you place a library that happens to be in a group in a preferred spot in the list.

If no Symphony Web Services are selected for the profile, no Symphony libraries will appear in the Available list, unless they are part of a group. Horizon can be included if they are part of a library group.

The library that appears first in the list of pickup libraries and is the default selection when a patron is placing a hold depends on one of the following criteria:

  1. The patron's preferred library—If a patron has selected a preferred library that is an available pickup library, that library is the default selection when the patron places a hold.
  2. The patron's home library—If the patron has not selected a preferred library but is assigned a home library that is an available pickup library, that library is the default selection when the patron places a hold.
  3. The item's library—If the list of available pickup libraries includes neither the patron's preferred library nor home library, the item's library is the default selection when the patron places a hold.
  4. The first entry in the list of available pickup libraries—If none of the libraries listed above are in the list of available pickup libraries, the available libraries appear in the same order as they do in the list of available pickup libraries when a patron places a hold.

Available

Displays a list of all the available libraries and library groups. For more information, see Security Options.

You can select or multiselect one or more libraries or groups and then click Add, or you can double-click individual libraries to move them to the Available list.

Selected

Displays the list of libraries and library groups that are connected to the profile. Libraries are used in the Pickup Library drop-down list where library users select the library from which they want to pick up an item.

You can select or multiselect one or more libraries or groups and then click Remove, or you can double-click individual libraries to remove them from the Selected list.

To add or remove libraries or groups in the list, choose the library or group, and then use these buttons:

Option Description

Select

Moves the selected library or group from the Available list to the Selected list.

Remove

Removes the selected library or group from the Selected list and returns it to the Available list.

Move Up

Moves the selected library or group up one position in the Selected list.

Move Down

Moves the selected library or group down one position in the Selected list.

Note: These buttons are context-sensitive based on which library(s) you choose. For example, if you select a library from the Available list, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are disabled because those commands are not available for available libraries. If you select a library from the Selected list, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are enabled because those commands are available for selected libraries.
