Fields: Select Search Targets for a Profile
Select Search Targets allows system administrators to specify which search targets are available to a specific search profile. An administrator with rights to all profiles must make search targets available to a search profile before other administrators with rights to the profile can select which search targets will be queried when a user with the search profile enters search terms.
Profiles > Select Search Targets
The administrator with all profile access can specify which delivered Discovery search targets are to be available to the specified search profile, and which Discovery search targets will not be available to the search profile.
The system administrator can specify which federated search targets are to be available to the specified search profile, and which federated search targets will not be available to the search profile. The federated search targets that the system administrator chooses for a search profile are displayed in Searching in the order that they appear in the Selected list under Federated Search Targets.
When you have finished selecting search targets for a search profile, click OK to save your changes, or click Cancel to discard your changes.

The Discovery administrator database metadata is cached in the Discovery Server application. Any changes to search profiles will not be reflected to the patron in Searching until the metadata cache is refreshed. For more information, see Refreshing the search cache. |

The "Show Only Available" button in the Searching interface depends on the "Item Available" search field being selected in a search source for it to displays. If it doesn't display, check your search sources to confirm that it is selected in a search source where items can be checked out (such as an ILS source). If the profile includes targets where availability is not pertinent (such as a profile that includes only federated search targets) and the "Show Only Available" button appears in the Searching interface, check any Discovery search sources that may be included in the profile and either remove them from Selected list, or remove "Item Available" field from the search source definition (see Fields: Add/Edit Discovery Search Sources). |

Federated search targets, including Academic Reserves targets, are not available in the Advanced Search page to limit searching. |
Profile
Displays the name of the search profile to which you are making search targets available or unavailable.
Discovery Search Targets
Discovery search targets are defined in Search Configuration. They provide the links to the items in one or more search sources available through the ILS or other sources.
Available
Displays a list of all the available Discovery search targets on the system. The list of available Discovery search targets is delivered with Portfolio. Choosing a search target makes that Discovery search target visible to the search profile. An administrator must then enable the search targets before a user with that search profile can use them.
You can select or multiselect one or more search targets and then click Select, or you can double-click individual search targets to move them to the Selected list under Discovery Search Targets.
Selected
Displays a list of Discovery search targets that have been made available to the profile. The selected search targets will be visible when an administrator views the search targets that can be assigned to a profile.
You can select or multiselect one or more search targets and then click Remove, or you can double-click individual search targets to move them to the Available list under Discovery Search Targets. Select a single search target and use the arrow buttons to move it to or from the Selected list.
To add or remove search targets in the list, choose the search target, and then use these buttons:
Option | Description |
---|---|
Select
|
Moves the selected search target from the Available list to the Selected list. |
Remove
|
Removes the selected search target from the Selected list and returns it to the Available list. |
Note: These buttons are context-sensitive based on which search target (s) you choose. For example, if you select a search target from the Available list, the Remove option is disabled because that command is not available for available Discovery search targets. If you select a search target from the Selected list, the Remove option is enabled because that command is available for selected Discovery search targets.
Federated Search Targets
The federated search targets are defined in Federated Configuration. They include links to databases that are outside the library or for Z39.50 searches.
Available
Displays a list of all the available federated search targets on the system. The list of available federated search targets is configured in Federated Search Sources > Search Targets > Configure Profile Availability. Choosing a search target makes that federated search target visible to the search profile. An administrator with rights to the profile must then enable the federated search targets before a user with that search profile can use them.
You can select or multiselect one or more search targets and then choose the Select button, or you can double-click individual search targets to move them to the Selected list under Federated Search Targets.
Selected
Displays a list of federated search targets that have been made available to the profile. The selected federated search targets will be visible when an administrator views the search targets that can be assigned to a profile.
You can select or multiselect one or more search targets and then click Remove, or you can double-click individual search targets to move them to the Available list under Federated Search Targets. Select a single search target and use the arrow buttons to move it up or down in the list.
Note: The order in which the federated search targets are listed in the Selected list is the default order in which the federated search targets will appear for a search profile. An administrator with rights to manage the profile can change or reorder the federated search targets list.
To add, remove, or reorder federated search targets in the list, choose the search target, and then use these buttons:
Option | Description |
---|---|
Select
|
Moves the selected federated search target from the Available list to the Selected list. |
Remove
|
Removes the selected federated search target from the Selected list and returns it to the Available list. |
Move Up
|
Moves the selected federated search target up one position in the Selected list. |
Move Down
|
Moves the selected federated search target down one position in the Selected list. |
Note: These buttons are context-sensitive based on which search target(s) you choose. For example, if you select a search target from the Available list under Federated Search Targets, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are disabled because those commands are not available for available federated search targets. If you select a search target from the Selected list under Federated Search Targets, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are enabled because those commands are available for selected federated search targets.
Interfile EDS Results
Specifies the default EBSCO search target to use when merging (interfiling) EBSCO Discovery Service search results with Portfolio search results. This setting occurs at the ILS database level but can be overridden by the patron selecting a different EDS Display Mode in My Account Preferences.
