Changing the MARC data that a search field displays
Your library may have cases where the MARC Maps that come with Portfolio do not deliver the MARC data that you need. The MARC Map editor lets you work with MARC Maps and tune them to include the data that you want presented as the result of a search. However, you cannot edit the mappings in a default (SirsiDynix-delivered) MARC Map. Fortunately, you can copy a default MARC Map, edit the copy, and assign that copy to the search field.
To change the MARC data a search field displays
- Log in to the Admin console.
- Choose Search Configuration from the navigation pane.
- Choose Search Fields.
-
Select Configure MARC Map for the search field you want to work with.
The Default MARC Map drop-down list displays the MARC Map you will need to edit or copy.
- Return to Search Configuration, then choose MARC Maps.
-
Locate the MARC Map in the list and determine if you need copy the MARC Map or if you can edit it.
Portfolio distinguishes between default and custom MARC Maps by displaying the View (
) option for default MARC Maps and the Edit (
) option for custom MARC Maps.
-
If the MARC Map is default, make a copy of the MARC Map to edit. For more information, see Copying a MARC Map.
It is a good ideas to prefix the custom MARC Map so you can easily identify it as a custom MARC Map.
- When you have a custom MARC Map to work with, you can edit the mappings and save them. For more information, see Editing a custom MARC Map.
- When you have finished editing the MARC Map, return to Configure MARC Map.
- In the Default MARC Map drop-down list, select the edited MARC Map, then choose OK.
- Choose Scheduled Tasks, then choose Search Source Tasks.
- Run the Import and Index (the indexing should happen automatically after the import) tasks for each search source that contributes to the revised MARC Map.
- Refresh the cache.
