Editing a theme

If you need to change the information for an existing theme, you can edit the theme and make the changes. Because each theme specifies the CSS file that it uses, you can modify which CSS file a theme uses without recreating the theme.

If you want to change the individual styles for a specific theme, you can modify the existing CSS file or create and assign a new CSS file to the theme. SirsiDynix does not support any changes made to the CSS files for pre-designed themes provided with Portfolio, nor does it provide specific instruction on how to create or modify CSS files.

When you edit a theme, you must specify unique values for some fields. If you enter information for a theme that is currently being used for another theme, the software highlights the field where the non-unique value appears and displays an error message indicating that the value is already being used by another theme and that the information you enter must be unique to the theme that you are editing.

If another administrative user edits or deletes a theme while you are editing it, the software displays an error message indicating that the record has been updated or deleted by another user, and preventing you from saving changes that you may have made to the theme. To continue making changes to this theme, you must reload the page and re-enter your changes.

In order to improve the performance of page loads, Portfolio sets the expiration dates of graphics, scripts, style sheets, and Flash components to expire at a far-future date. Because of that, Portfolio instructs the browser to use cached versions of these files instead of reloading them from the server. Therefore, when you add a new custom file to a page, name the file a unique name (such as a versioned file name), instead of an existing name. The consequence of using an existing name is that Portfolio will load the cached title other than the new file until the patron refreshes the browser cache.

If you try to edit a theme that another administrative user has deleted, the software refreshes the Theme List and displays an error message indicating that the record has been deleted by another user.
